"Three generations of PRAs are available in AXE:

a
The 'PRA' was developed exclusively for the connection of ISDN Primary Access that its Layer 2 is terminated in the LSM, ie not using the GAM platform.
ISDN-E subscribers are not supported by this generation of PRA. Also, the required hardware is obsolete (ie not salable anymore).

The 'GAM PRA' is using the Generic Access Manager (GAM) concept, and offers higher reliability and D-channel traffic capability. Layer 2 is terminated in the TRH board via the GS in case of an RPD. For the RPG, it is terminated in the processor board.
Both ISDN and ISDN-E subscribers are supported by this generation of PRA.

The 'GS connected PRA' is more cost effective for high traffic users. These users are connected directly to the Group Switch without any concentration of the B- and D-channels. Only ISDN-E subscribers are supported by this generation of PRA.
The first generation is termed as 'PRA' while the second is termed as 'PRA-GAM' and the last is termed as 'PRA-GS' throughout this document. "
